Nutrition Counseling is likely a benefit covered by your insurance.

Idaho’s Dietitian is in-network with many major insurance plans.

You may have coverage for medical nutrition therapy and preventive nutrition counseling, often with low or no out-of-pocket cost depending on your plan.

Not sure what your plan covers? Just call the 800 number on your card. Ask the following questions:

  • Do I have coverage for nutrition counseling? My dietitian would be using procedure codes (CPT codes) 97802 (initial nutrition appointment) and 97083 (follow-up nutrition appointment).

  • Do I need a referral to see a Registered Dietitian?

  • Do I have any preventative services that would fall under ICD-10 code Z71.3 or Z72.4? If not, are my diagnoses covered on my particular plan? Please mention any diagnosis you may have from your doctor, especially overweight, obese, pre-diabetes, diabetes, hypertension or high cholesterol.

  • How many visits per calendar year do I receive?

  • Do I have a cost-share (co-pay or deductible) for these services?

  • Is there an associated cost for me if I choose to have the appointment as a telehealth visit versus an in-person visit?

Once you have verified your benefits, call our office at 📞 Call 208-866-3491 to schedule an appointment.

Taking advantage of your insurance benefits is a simple first step toward better health.

Idaho’s Dietitian does not accept Medicare at this time due to limited nutrition coverage under Medicare. However, self-pay rates are available for individuals without nutrition therapy benefits. Please call for current pricing.
